Poppit FAQs

How many Poppits do I need?

The number of Poppits you need will depend on the weight of your panel, the safety factor you want to apply and if any dynamic loading is present. Please use our Poppit calculators to work out the correct quantity required.

Which part of the Poppit do I fit first?

It does not matter if you fit the male (metal) part or the female (plastic) part first.

What is the plastic part made of?

Macrolon 2805; chosen for its strength, flexibility and long term stability.

How long will the Poppit last?

Poppits are designed to last! The unique articulating "snap-fit" design combined with the use of quality materials ensure the Poppit will continue to provide a secure fixing in many applications, long after its first installation.

Can I obtain more technical data on the performance of the Poppit?

bigHead have some testing data available although this is based on laboratory conditions and specific test criteria, however it may be of interest to certain clients; please contact bigHead for further information or advice.

Do I have to use bigHead's range of adhesives?

Whilst we offer "best in class" adhesives there are a number of other adhesive brands available which may be suitable for affixing Poppits.

As with any adhesive it is always recommended that you do a trial bonding first, in order to ascertain final bonding strength/quality for your particular material/application.

For technical and safety data on bigHead adhesives see our adhesives page.

What is the best adhesive to use with plywood?

We recommend our BigBond HighGrab. In tests it achieved a 37Kg pull-off for the 20mm Poppit.

For technical and safety data on bigHead adhesives see our adhesives page.

What is the total stacking height of the Poppit?

faq18.8mm (20mm Poppit)
10.6mm (30mm Poppit)

How can I reduce the Poppit height?

Counter-bore one or both parts into the mounting substrates.

What spacing should I use between each Poppit when mounting to my panel?

This is generally dependant upon available space and the weight of your panel. In most cases a nominal (maximum) spacing (or pitch) of approximately 400mm in each direction is acceptable but can be defined by the user in accordance with the panel area available and where there location most suits the particular application.

Where should I mount my Poppits for the best results?

It is most desirable to mount Poppits relatively close to the edge of your panel as well as into the centre. This is to aid ease of panel removal once mounted into position with the Poppit system. As it is necessary to "snap-out" the Poppit fixings in order to remove your panel, placing Poppits around the panel edge permits easy access to the fixing to apply the release force required to "snap-out" the fitting. This also can prevent damage to the installed panel and also the Poppit fastener itself.
